About ReflexTimer
What ReflexTimer is
ReflexTimer is a free collection of browser-based reaction and speed tests. There is nothing to install and no account to create: you open a page, take the test, and your scores stay on your own device. The first two tests are the Reaction Time Test — how fast you respond to a visual signal — and the CPS Test — how many clicks per second you can sustain. More tests are on the way.
How the tests work
The reaction time test waits a random delay of one to five seconds, then turns the board green. Click the moment it does; each round has five attempts and your average is what counts. Clicking before the green voids the attempt, exactly like lifting early in a sprint start. The CPS test works the other way around: your first click starts a timer, and you click as fast as you can for the duration you picked.
What is a good reaction time?
Research generally puts the average adult visual reaction time between 200 and 250 milliseconds, and regular FPS players often test between 150 and 200 ms. Scores from any browser test run slower than laboratory figures, because your screen, mouse or trackpad, and the browser itself all add a little time. Compare yourself against your own past results on the same device rather than against someone else's numbers — that is the honest comparison.
Tips for more accurate results
- Use the same device and browser when tracking progress.
- A wired mouse is more consistent than a trackpad or touchscreen.
- Close heavy background tabs so the page stays responsive.
- Warm up with a practice round, then count the next ones.
Your results stay private
Your scores and history are stored only in your browser's local storage on your device. They are never uploaded, and we have no server-side record of them — there is nothing for us to leak, sell, or lose. Clearing your browser storage, or pressing the Reset button on either test page, removes them completely.
What's next
We are building ReflexTimer into a full benchmark collection, the way a good lab bench fills up one instrument at a time. An aim trainer, a typing speed test, and memory tests are the most likely additions. Each new test gets its own page, its own keyword, and the same privacy rules.
